Rudra parabhishekam is a ritual of great importance for Hindus and it is associated with lord Shiva especially in his temperament of Rudra. In short, Rudra abhishekam means bathing Shiva in such a way that, he gets purified according to norms of honor that are placed.

Procedure of Rudra abhishekam.

Practitioners of this worship are the priests and it’s performed in the temple or one’s house. The following steps can be performed in the following manner.

Purification: The site meant for performance of the urudents is anointed with Ganga water or some other sacred water.

Invocation: The priest utters mantras to the beloved Lord Shiva in order to invite him for observation.

Abhishekam: Many proponents believe that the Lord Shiva Lingam is bathed with milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugarcane, rosewater, and sandalwood paste during this sacred coercion.

Offering: Devotees offer their reverence by presenting flowers, fruits, frankincense, and other components to Lord Shiva.

Aarti: The Shaivite priest gives the Shiva Linga the first aarti (of waving a lighted lamps around it).

Chanting: Various slokas and composition dedicated to Lord Shiva are chanted by the priest.

When to Perform Rudra Abhishek

There are no restrictions on which day one can perform Rudra Abhishek, however there are certain days which may be more auspicious than the others.

Shravan Month: Shravan month i.e. July-August is a month dedicated to Lord Shiva, and a Rudra Abhishek is commonly practiced in this month.

Mondays: In Hinduism, Monday is also believed to be special for Lord Shiva and Rudra Abhishek may be done in every Monday.

While it is best to do Rudra Abhishek in a temple under some priest, it can also be done at home with detailed instructions and necessary materials. However, it must be emphasized that the ritual is performed with complete devotion and earnestness.
